Themes & Appearance

Make Coherence feel like yours with custom themes. Choose from curated color schemes that suit your style, improve readability on your monitor, or match your brand.

Color Mode

Coherence supports three color modes:

Mode	Description
Light	Bright backgrounds with dark text
Dark	Dark backgrounds with light text
System	Automatically follows your device settings

Changing Color Mode

Go to Settings → Appearance
Choose Light, Dark, or System

The change applies instantly across all of Coherence.

System mode is great if you like light mode during the day and dark mode at night - it follows your device's schedule automatically.

Custom Themes

Beyond light and dark, Coherence offers curated themes that change colors throughout the interface. Each theme is carefully designed for readability and visual harmony.

Selecting a Theme

Go to Settings → Appearance
Browse the theme gallery
Click a theme to preview it instantly
Click Apply to keep it, or Cancel to revert

Your selection is saved and applies to all your devices.

Light Themes

Theme	Description
Default Light	Clean, professional blue accents
Warm Sand	Inviting amber tones, easy on the eyes
Ocean Breeze	Calm teal accents for focused work
Forest	Natural greens, grounded and earthy
Lavender Mist	Gentle purples for creative spaces

Dark Themes

Default Dark	Modern blue accents, sleek and professional
Midnight	Deep indigo for immersive focus
Nord	Arctic-inspired, popular with developers
Dracula	Classic dark theme with vibrant pink accents
High Contrast	Maximum contrast for accessibility

Themes are tied to color modes. You can choose one theme for light mode and another for dark mode. When your mode switches, your preferred theme for that mode activates automatically.

Previewing Themes

When you click a theme in the picker, Coherence applies it temporarily so you can see how it looks:

The entire interface updates to the new colors
A preview banner appears at the top
Click Apply to save your choice
Click Cancel to return to your previous theme

This lets you try multiple themes before committing.

Themes customize colors across the entire interface:

Background - Main content areas
Sidebar - Navigation background and text
Buttons - Primary actions and accents
Text - Headings, body text, and muted text
Borders - Dividers and card outlines
Status colors - Success, warning, and error indicators
Data grids - Table backgrounds and highlights

Everything updates together to maintain visual consistency.

The High Contrast dark theme is designed for users who need maximum readability:

PWA & Desktop App

When using Coherence as a Progressive Web App (PWA) or desktop application:

The window title bar color matches your theme
Your theme persists across sessions
Themes sync with the web version

Tips for Choosing a Theme

Match your environment - Light themes for bright rooms, dark themes for dim lighting
Consider your monitor - Some displays render colors differently; try a few options
Think about focus - Muted themes can reduce visual fatigue during long sessions
Use High Contrast if needed - No shame in prioritizing readability

Themes Across Devices

Your theme preference syncs across all your devices when using the same account. Change it on your laptop, and it updates on your phone too.
